Updated: May 15, 2023

I know a few things that can make your trip a little easier. Whether your destination is Desire, Temptations or any other pineapple destination we hope these tips help you in your way there.

I know, I know, some people are worried to travel to a place with a different language, but let me tell you, it's an amazing place full of culture, food, and adventure. So let's get into some of the best travel tips that'll make your trip to Mexico one to remember.

SOME ESSENTIALS THAT YOU DEFINITELY CAN’T FORGET

Passport If you're traveling, it's essential to have your passport with you. Before leaving home, ensure that your passport is packed in your travel bag to avoid any mishaps. It may sound silly to mention, but we've forgotten it before! Additionally, according to the SRE (Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores, Mexico Foreign Affairs Department) , ensure that your passport has at least six months of validity from your day of travel.

Bathing Suits

When packing for your Cancun trip, don't forget to include bathing suits (preferably at least three). Since Cancun is quite humid, it takes time for things to dry. Therefore, it's better to have multiple bathing suits to switch between. Fortunately, there are no restrictions on the amount of skin you show at the beaches, so you can wear whatever makes you comfortable. If you're looking for recommendations, Tugs Nation offers some of my personal favorite pineapple bathing suits. Also check some of the options we have at the Lifeinstyle store.

Bank card / cash

We recommend carrying some cash in USD with you in case of emergencies, but it's best to exchange your money for Mexican Pesos once you arrive in Mexico because the exchange rate is more favorable there. Be sure to call your bank in advance to confirm that your bank card will work in Mexico, and remember to memorize your bank card PIN so you can easily withdraw money from ATMs.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE ON VACATION

Set up a shuttle transfer from the airport to your resort before you leave your home and begin travelling. This will save you a headache. If you wait to get transportation after you land you can end up paying more money from the taxi and shuttle vendors outside the airport. Plus these hombres can be a little overwhelming!

I have used USA Transfers and loved it! They also have an app which makes finding your information so easy and quick!

Make sure that you setup the PICKUP from the airport and the RETURN from the hotel that you are staying at.

LANDING AT CANCUN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CUN)

Let’s begin when you land at the airport. Be ready for long lines at customs, take it easy, grab a drink use the facilities and be patient. Once you’ve passed through and picked up your checked bags, you are just a few steps away from that sexy pool party you’ve been ready for all day!!

Don’t wait in line at the airport ATMs and money exchanges, there are ATMs at the resorts, and if you ask your driver to stop by a convenience store or a bank along the way, you can also make a withdraw so that you can have some pesos for tipping all of the wonderful staff and drivers that you will meet. Its good to have a conversion calculator on your phone and to be familiar with the Mexican bills and coins. Break a big bill so that you will have some tips ready for your stay, this shows your appreciation to the staff at the resort.

DO I NEED TO LEARN SPANISH TO TRAVEL TO CANCUN?

Bienvenidos a Mexico! Try to learn a few simple phrases to show respect to the kind people of Mexico, such as por favor (please) and gracias (thank you). Google translate is a free app and quick to use for those times you need to communicate with the locals in their native language.

We have noticed that 8 out of 10 people in Cancun can speak some sort of English.

If you want to become even more familiar with the Spanish language we recommend you download Duolingo for your smartphone. We have used it to learn new languages when traveling abroad. It is super fun and easy to use!

TIPS OR (PROPINA)

It's important to remember to show appreciation for the servers and bartenders even if you are staying at an all-inclusive resort. A small gesture such as leaving a tip can make a big difference in their day. The customary amount we do is 20 pesos or a dollar per round. These individuals work hard to ensure your enjoyment, and by showing your gratitude, they will be more inclined to provide exceptional service.

When it comes to tipping for dinner in Mexico the customary 15% minimum is recommended. However don't hesitate to raise that percentage if you were given an exceptional service or if you are in an exclusive restaurant or resort.

Having trouble converting Pesos to US Dollars?

You can always type "X MXN to USD" in your google browser. Ie: type "100 MXN to USD" in your browser.

ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES

We have received a lot of questions about bringing cannabis pens or other illegal substances into Mexico. We strongly advise against traveling with any drugs or items that are illegal at the federal level. Doing so can lead to legal trouble, including potential consequences before leaving the US airport. We urge you to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in both countries.

IS THE FOOD IN MEXICO SAFE?

Let's talk about food in Mexico. Mexican cuisine is known all around the world for its delicious flavors, and there's no doubt that you'll find some amazing dishes to try. Don't be afraid to try some of the local specialties, such as mole, ceviche, and chilaquiles - they're truly amazing. One of the best things about Mexican cuisine is the street food, so don't miss out on the opportunity to try some of the amazing food served by street vendors. However, it's important to take some precautions to ensure your health and safety. Always drink bottled water, and avoid tap water even when brushing your teeth. When ordering drinks from street vendors or small restaurants, make sure to ask for them without ice (sin hielo). It's also a good idea to be cautious when it comes to salads and fruit, as it's difficult to know whether they have been washed with purified water. However, you can always ask for a wedge of lime to squeeze on your raw vegetables to add some extra flavor and protection.

So, don't let the fear of getting sick stop you from experiencing some of the best food you'll ever taste!

NIGHTLIFE

First, let's talk about the nightlife. When in Cancun, you must experience the electric atmosphere of the city's world-renowned nightclubs. From Coco Bongo's (Blvd. Kukulcan 30, Punta Cancun) jaw-dropping performances to The City Nightclub's (Blvd. Kukulcan Km 9.5, Punta Cancun) rooftop party, and La Vaquita's (Blvd. Kukulcan Km. 9.5, Punta Cancun) lively crowd, there is something for EVERYONE!

CHICHEN ITZA

But Cancun isn't just about partying; it's also a place rich in history and culture. Make sure to schedule a tour to visit the Chichen Itza archeological site, one of the most iconic and preserved remnants of the ancient Mayan civilization that once thrived in Mexico and Central America.

CENOTES

If you're planning a trip to Cancun, visiting a cenote is a must-do activity! Cenotes are natural sinkholes filled with crystal-clear freshwater that are unique to the Yucatan Peninsula.

The ancient Mayas considered cenotes sacred since they were a source of fresh water, and archaeologists have found human remains and jewelry at the bottom of some cenotes . In the eastern part of Quintana Roo, where Cancun is located, cenotes are formed by the collapse of cave systems over a long period of time.

ARE YOU STAYING IN AN ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT?

Bring a large aluminum tumbler cup with a lid. This has turned out to be such a great idea every time we visit Desire or Temptation and we wanted to pass it along to you! You can ask the bartender to fill it up with your favorite drink and you don’t have to worry about your ice melting when enjoying the pool or other outdoor activities. Also you always know which drink is yours! Don't forget to decorate it with your favorite Panda Lifeinstyle decals!

So, whether you're a history buff, party animal, or somewhere in between, Cancun is the place to be!

USE SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY

Let's not forget about the most important safety tip of all - use protection! I'm talking about sunscreen, of course. The Mexican sun is no joke, so lather up, people.
